Registered charities and CICs led by and working with people experiencing economic inequity because of their race or ethnicity are invited to apply for grants of £75,000, awarded over three years from Lloyds Bank Foundation for England and Wales.
42 charities and CICs are expected to secure a grant under Lloyds Bank Foundations’ Racial Equity programme, where each will receive £25,000 per year, over three years. Funding is unrestricted, making it possible to use the grant to support any costs that further the charity’s purpose.
Lloyds Bank Foundation believes small, local and specialist organisations play a unique role in helping people rebuild their lives. Their size and deep understanding of the complex issues people face make them best placed to reach, engage and support people. To ensure small and local charities can thrive beyond the lifetime of its funding, the Foundation’s funding programmes combine unrestricted funding with tailored development aimed at helping strengthening knowledge, skills and capabilities of staff and trustees.
Applications are welcome from organisations working outside of London. Funding in London will be announced later in the year.
"Small, local charities, run by people and communities experiencing racial injustices, witness first-hand how systemic and institutional racism continues to impact lives. These charities are often underfunded and stretched thin as more and more people turn to them for support. Investment in small frontline charities is critical to help communities most deeply affected by crisis create lasting change.”
- André Clarke, Director of Charity Development at Lloyds Bank Foundation for England and Wales
“The support from Lloyds Bank Foundation enabled us to grow towards our vision of ending digital poverty. Unrestricted funding took away the worry of covering our core costs so that we could focus on supporting black women out of poverty.”
- Sylvia Kalungi, CEO of WODIN, a small Community Interest Company based in Liverpool, was successful in securing funding in 2023
In 2023, Lloyds Bank Foundation received 256 applications, and 176 (68%) met the initial eligibility criteria and 39 (21%) charities were awarded funding, a total of almost £3m for this funding programme.
